Enjoy a delightful treat with these Crispy Air Fryer Apple Fries, featuring perfectly seasoned apple wedges coated in a crunchy cinnamon-sugar panko crust. This easy recipe uses an air fryer to achieve a golden-brown, crispy texture without deep frying, making it a lighter and quick snack or dessert option. Serve warm with a luscious caramel sauce or creamy vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Fries

  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Cooking spray

Dipping Sauce (Optional)

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (optional for a lighter option)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Peel the apples if desired and slice them into wedges about 1/2 inch thick. Remove the core and seeds. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar and set aside.
  2. Set Up the Breading Station: Place the flour in one bowl, the beaten eggs in another, and the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl. Add half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture to the breadcrumbs and mix well.
  3. Coat the Apple Slices: Dredge each apple slice in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten egg, ensuring it is fully coated. Press the slice into the breadcrumb mixture, making sure it is evenly coated. Repeat the process for all apple slices.
  4. Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes. Arrange the breaded apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray the slices lightly with cooking spray. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time, until the apple fries are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve: While the apple fries are still hot, sprinkle them with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture for extra sweetness. Serve immediately with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Notes

  • You can peel the apples or leave the skin on for extra texture and nutrients.
  • Use your favorite apple variety; tart apples like Granny Smith hold up well during cooking.
  • Make sure to arrange apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer for even cooking.
  • Adjust air frying time slightly based on the size and thickness of the apple slices.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour and breadcrumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
