Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Sauce

  • 1 lb chicken breast (cut into 1” pieces)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil (divided)
  • ½ tsp salt (divided)
  • ½ tsp pepper (divided)
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • ½ cup honey
  • ½ cup Texas Pete hot sauce
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes

Vegetables

  • 1 head broccoli (cut into florets)
  • 1½ cups shredded purple cabbage

Others

  • Cooked rice (for serving)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for roasting the broccoli.
  2. Prepare sauce: In a large bowl, whisk together garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, red pepper flakes, honey, hot sauce, and ¼ teaspoon each of salt and pepper to make the hot honey sauce base.
  3. Marinate chicken: Pour half of the sauce into a small bowl and set aside for finishing drizzle. Add chicken pieces to the remaining sauce and toss well to coat. Let marinate for about 15 minutes while prepping vegetables.
  4. Roast broccoli: Toss broccoli florets with 1 tablespoon olive oil, and the remaining ¼ teaspoon salt and pepper. Spread evenly on the prepared baking sheet and roast in the oven for 15–20 minutes until tender and lightly charred on edges.
  5. Cook chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with 2 tablespoons olive oil. Add marinated chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Glaze chicken: Brush or toss the cooked chicken with the reserved hot honey sauce for a glossy, sticky coating.
  7. Assemble bowls: Layer cooked rice at the base of your bowl, then add shredded purple cabbage, roasted broccoli, and topped with the hot honey glazed chicken.
  8. Garnish and serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and optionally drizzle additional reserved sauce over the bowl for extra flavor.

Notes

  • For more heat, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or hot sauce to taste.
  • Ensure chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F for safety.
  • Use parchment paper when roasting broccoli to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  • This recipe works well with white or brown rice based on preference.
  • Fresh parsley adds a bright herbal note but can be omitted if unavailable.
