Base Layer
- 9 graham cracker squares
- 6 milk chocolate bars (Hershey’s)
Marshmallow Mixture
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- 10 oz mini marshmallows, divided
- 1 7 oz container marshmallow fluff
Cereal
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- Prepare Base: Line an 8 x 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Arrange the 9 graham cracker squares at the bottom of the baking pan in an even layer. Place 2 whole milk chocolate bars over the graham crackers. Broil in the oven for 2 minutes or until the chocolate has melted. Using a spatula, smooth the melted chocolate evenly over the graham crackers.
- Make Marshmallow Mixture: In a large stockpot, melt ¼ cup unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir in 4 cups of mini marshmallows along with the entire container of marshmallow fluff, continuing to stir until completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat.
- Combine with Cereal: Immediately stir in 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal until well coated. Chop 2 ½ of the remaining chocolate bars and gently fold the chopped chocolate into the cereal mixture to distribute evenly.
- Assemble Layer: Carefully spread the marshmallow and cereal mixture over the prepared graham cracker and chocolate base in the baking pan, using a rubber spatula to smooth the top.
- Add Marshmallow Topping and Broil: Evenly scatter the remaining mini marshmallows over the cereal layer. Broil the pan in the oven for 2 to 3 minutes or until the marshmallows are puffed and golden brown. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
- Finish and Cool: Chop the remaining 1 ½ chocolate bars and immediately sprinkle the pieces over the hot toasted marshmallows on top. Allow the entire pan to cool completely so that the layers set before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Watch the broiler closely during melting and toasting steps to prevent burning.
- You can substitute regular marshmallows if mini marshmallows are unavailable.
- This recipe is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Use parchment paper for easy removal and cleanup.
- Ensure the marshmallow mixture is spread carefully to avoid breaking the graham cracker base.
